Beaver Falls, PA - This time last year the Geneva College softball team was treading into unfamiliar territory. The Golden Tornadoes were headed to their first-ever Presidents′ Athletic Conference tournament in their first year of NCAA Division III eligibility. Things worked out pretty well for Geneva as they swept through the PAC tournament with a 3-0 record to capture the school′s first conference championship. One year later, Geneva is set to open another PAC tournament with very different circumstances.

The Golden Tornadoes head into Thursday′s first-round match-up with Washington & Jefferson with a bulls-eye square on their backs. Geneva finished the 2013 campaign in a first-place tie with Westminster at 14-4 in league play. Tie-breaker scenarios afforded the Titans the chance to host the 2013 tournament. Meanwhile, the Golden Tornadoes, which are 20-14 overall heading into Tuesday′s regular season finale at Case Western, are looking for a duplicate effort one year after surprising the PAC field from the #4 seed position.

Geneva takes on a Washington & Jefferson (24-12, 13-5) team that enjoyed a great turnaround season. The two teams split the season series earlier in the year with Geneva taking game one 9-4 and dropping the night cap 12-5. In the other first round game, top seeded Westminster (21-13, 14-4) will host fourth seeded Thomas More (21-17, 12-6). The winners of Thursday′s first-round contests will meet at 3 pm with the losers meeting at 5 pm. The tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III softball play-offs, with regional play beginning next week.

Following is the PAC tournament schedule:

Thursday, May 2

Game A: Thomas More vs. Westminster - 11 am

Game B: Washington & Jefferson vs. Geneva - 1 pm

Game C: Game A winner vs. Game B winner - 3 pm

Game D: Game A loser vs. Game B loser - 5 pm

Friday, May 3

Game E: Game C loser vs. Game D winner - 1 pm

Game F: Game C winner vs. Game E winner - 3 pm

Game G: If necessary - 5 pm
