Members of one of Geneva College's history classes launched the Geneva College Digital History website at the beginning of May, after spending an entire semester curating material.

Assembled by seven undergraduate students and one instructor, the site acts as a functioning research archive for the topics of higher education, college sports, and 1920s western Pennsylvanian history at Geneva. The site is comprised of 88 pages, over 200 primary sources and 226 total posts.

The course design is a part of an emerging applied history pedagogy intended to give students hands-on experience in the field of history, while also providing a service to the local Geneva community.

Geneva_Harvard.jpgClass members chose the 1920s for several reasons. First, there are a manageable number of sources to fully evaluate in a semester. Also, the 1926 Geneva v. Harvard University game could be used as a starting point for research.

While approaching this project, students formulated several goals-beginning digital history record for Geneva,geneva_jazzers.jpg making the student body aware of the college's history and identifying Geneva's role in society. In addition to conducting an incredible amount of research, students were required to translate jargon from the 1920s and interpret the deeper meanings of the primary sources.
