Mitch_Nichols.jpg.jpegDr. Mitchel Nickols, a professor in Geneva College′s Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL) program, was recently named an Urban Hero by the Center for Urban Biblical Ministry (CUBM) in Pittsburgh, PA.

CUBM established the Urban Heroes program in 2010 through a Multicultural Arts Initiative grant. The purpose of the award, according to the Urban Heroes website, is to honor "people who serve in our community day-in and day-out who receive no recognition. Their efforts are truly heroic and they are happy to serve incognito. We thought their stories need to be publicized and they need to be honored as the true heroes of our community."

All of those named Urban Heroes take part in interviews, which are transcribed and published in the book Urban Heroes: Stories of Ordinary Pittsburgh Residents Who Do Extraordinary Things. Nickols′ interview is available online here.

Nickols is the senior pastor of Bibleway Christian Fellowship Church. He is also the executive producer and host of "A Nickols' Worth," a nationally televised, award-winning talk show on Cornerstone Television, and the founder and president of the nonprofit organization Friends of Eden, Inc.

For 25 years, CUBM has provided accredited Bible-based degree programs granted by Geneva College. CUBM currently offers associate degrees in Christian ministry, business administration, human services and leadership.

Geneva College invites students to accept the challenge of an academically excellent, Christ-centered education. Offering nearly 40 undergraduate majors, an Adult Degree Completion Program with fully online and campus-based options, and seven graduate degrees, Geneva has programs that place students at the forefront of higher learning. Adhering to the inerrancy of scripture, the liberal arts core curriculum fosters a breadth of knowledge through the study of humanities, social and natural sciences, and experiential learning.
