geneva_tornado_logo.jpgBeaver Falls, PA - The Geneva Women′s soccer team is ready to turn heads as they begin the 2013 season. Finishing the 2012 campaign at 9-9-1 overall record, a 5-4 mark in conference and lastly as the NCCAA east regional semi-finalists, was a step in the right direction with the prior season ending without any postseason play. Head coach, Linda Sumner, enters her seventh year at the helm of the women′s soccer team to what promises to be their most successful season yet. "We plan to build on the achievements we had last year and look forward to the year ahead," says Sumner.

Losing only two players to graduation, the program was left in good hands with six seniors ready to make a play for the PAC title. "It is nice to come into preseason with a large core group of returners who are able to share their wealth of experience with promising underclassmen," says Sumner. The team also looks to sophomore returner, Heidi Mann, the all-time freshman leader in goals in school history with 18 tallies on her first year with the Golden Tornadoes. Mann is also aware with all the hard earned recognition she received, a target might be placed on her back as opponents look to shut down this unstoppable forward.

In net, sophomore Anna McMullen returns for her second season as the final line of defense for the team. "Last year McMullen posted seven shutouts. In 2013 we hope she is consistent with that record and improves her goals against average. The combination of those two components will make for a great season for Anna," says goalkeeper coach Christy Lear. Joining McMullen in the back will be fresh faces and returners alike who hope to create a defensive wall/stand for the 2013 season.

The Geneva women′s soccer team has a lot to look forward to this fall. A large incoming class of six new players joining the upperclassmen and especially six seniors, who want to make their last season as golden tornadoes one they will never forget.
