Pittsburgh, PA - After finishing the 2012 campaign at 10-7-5 the Geneva College men′s soccer team planned to hit the ground running for their season opener. The Golden Tornadoes went on the road to play a physical Mount Union team in the first game of the Carnegie Mellon Tournament on Friday night. What seemed to be a great start to the season ended in a 2-1 loss to Mt. Union Raiders.

Less than five minutes into the game Geneva senior forward, Garrett Masters, found the back of the net off a feed from junior midfielder, Jeremey Troutman. Unfortunately, not six minutes later the Mt. Union Raiders answered with a goal of their own from senior midfielder Chris Felker. For the next 20 minutes the Golden Tornadoes were able to possess around Mt. Union only to give up a second goal in the 30th minute on the Raiders′ second shot of the half.

A hard fought second half and an overall 18-6 advantage in shots was not enough to earn the Golden Tornadoes the win. The Geneva men′s soccer team will take the field again Saturday, August 31st at 4 p.m. when they play the Hiram College Terriers on day two of the Carnegie Mellon Tournament. The Golden Tornadoes welcome Franciscan University this Wednesday to open the home schedule at 7p.m.
