Beaver Falls, PA - The Golden Tornadoes enjoyed being back under the Reeves Field lights for their fourth 2013 win at home. Geneva Homecoming fans didn′t brave the cold and rain for nothing; Geneva slid by the St. Vincent Bearcats 40-30 for an overall record of 4-2, 3-1 in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference (PAC).
Rocco Colavecchia and Zack Hayward each ran into the End Zone to give Geneva a 14 point lead over the visiting Bearcats. Unable to hang onto the lead, the Bearcats answered with a 25 yard pass touchdown by Dan Wirkowski and a 10 yard pass caught by Rob O′Hearn in the last seven minutes of the first quarter.
Momentum continued to sway from sideline to sideline in the second quarter. Sophomore receiver, Lemuel Fuller completed Hayward′s 22 yard pass in a five play, 55 yard drive for the third GT touchdown of the evening. Three minutes later, Bearcat, Andy Borgen ran into Geneva′s End Zone for an even 21-21 game. Before ending the half, Colavecchia scored his second touchdown of the game (1 yard run), Geneva′s fourth touchdown for the halftime edge.
The third quarter remained scoreless, leaving only a seven point gap between the PAC rivals with 20 minutes left on the clock. Golden Tornado, Zach Taylor, widened Geneva′s lead with a 17 yard touchdown pass (14-80 yard drive). Unfortunately, The Homecoming cheers silenced after the extra point kick was blocked and returned for a St. Vincent point after touchdown (PAT) return, good for two Bearcats points.
Senior, Montias Jackson, regained the Golden Tornadoes momentum that would fuel the winning 40 points. Jackson's fourth down sack ended Saint Vincent′s drive that later led to a Geneva touchdown. Geneva stayed at 40 after a missed extra point. Bearcats had the last word with a 5 yard pass touchdown but could not close the gap.
In the win, Dylan Jones rushed 17 times for 65 yards and Colavecchia rushed 11 times for 40 yards and three touchdowns. Hayward completed 30 passes out of his 47 attempts for two touchdowns. Fuller collected 12 of those throws for 193 yards and a touchdown. On defense, John Onufer had 13. Conference tackler leader, Dillon Goodell collected 10 tackles, a sack, and two tackles for loss. Montias Jackson picked up four sacks and finished with a total of four tackles for loss.
Geneva will attempt to take the home field advantage momentum and win its first road game at Waynesburg on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
