Crestview Hills, KY - The Golden Tornadoes are not enjoying games away from home. Geneva′s 3-0 record at home has quickly turned into a 3-2 overall record after two consecutive games on the road, dropping their record in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference to 2-1.
The Thomas More Saints did not hand Geneva its first conference loss gently. The Saints racked up 34 points in the first quarter against the GT′s. A 42 yard Thomas More interception touchdown return by Kyle Fuller gave Thomas More a 20-0 lead, digging a hole too deep for the Golden Tornadoes to recover from. Geneva attempted to find the scoreboard in the last two minutes of the first quarter, only to have the kick blocked and returned for a Thomas More touchdown by Trey Wells (75 yards).
By halftime, Thomas More racked 21 more points for a 55 point game. Junior, running back, Domonique Hayden, claimed three of the Saint′s touchdowns with a 19 yard rush in 12:49 of the first quarter, 30 yard rush at the 7:38 minute mark in the second quarter and a 37 yard rush four minutes later. Thomas More would score one more time in the third quarter before their offensive furry subsided.
When all was said and done, Geneva offense was only able to muster up six first downs for a total of 88 offensive yards. Thomas More found 19 first downs and 426 offensive yards in the 60 minutes. If the Saint′s defense wasn′t making it hard enough, Geneva fumbled the ball three times in the afternoon losing possession twice.
If you are looking for a silver lining you can turn to defensive side of the ball. Leading the defensive was Dillon Goodell with 12 tackles, Jeff Gillis with 10, followed by John Onufer and Markus Wagner with eight each. Goodell tackled two tackles for loss (TFL) for four yards. Geneva′s defense tackled 9 TFL for 29 total yards in 36:13 minutes Thomas More possessed the ball.
Geneva will take full advantage of the bi-week scheduled this week hoping to recover from injuries and to prepare for their next game at home. On October 19th Geneva will celebrate Homecoming by hosting the St. Vincent College Bearcats at 4 p.m.
