Beaver Falls, PA- Geneva welcomed the Thiel Tomcats Saturday night to open Presidents′ Athletic Conference play. Twenty-five minutes into the first half lightning delayed the game but sparked Geneva′s offense to end the four game scoreless drought. The 4-0 win over Thiel lifted the Golden Tornadoes to 4-6 overall record and 1-0 in the PAC.
Geneva′s Heidi Mann ended the scoring struggle when she received a pass from Caroline Wright and powered a shot passed Thiel goalkeeper Mary Oakey in the 41st minute. The Golden Tornadoes did not stop there and continued to score three more goals. One came off the foot of Rhetta King for her third goal of the season in the 50th minute. Mann would go on to collect two additional tallies to complete a hat trick for her first three goals this season. Thiel was able to put eight shots together but none made it passed freshman goalkeeper Kayla Gaines who made three saves and recorded her first collegiate shutout.
To continue PAC play Geneva will travel to Crestview Hills, KY Wednesday to take on Thomas More at 4 p.m. before returning back to Merriman Athletic Complex on Saturday to host W&J at 12 p.m. for Community Day.
