Pittsburgh, PA - The Golden Tornadoes Men′s Basketball team traveled into Pittsburgh to battle the Tartans of Carnegie Mellon on Monday Night. After splitting its first two home games, Geneva aimed to get above the .500 mark in the early stages of their season. The Tartans, however, had other plans as they squelched Geneva′s offense on its way to an 81-67 victory over the Golden Tornadoes. The loss pushes Geneva′s overall record to 1-2 and gives the Tartans a win in their first contest of the year.

During a back and forth first 20 minutes, Geneva held strong against CMU but struggled from the floor as they shot just 10-29 (34.5%). However, as a good team will do, they forced the ball inside and were able to get to the rim and the stripe often enough to only trail 33-32 at the half. For the third game in a row, Geneva′s half-court defense played extremely well throughout the first half. Jacob Grim paced the Tornadoes with 10 first half points while first year stud Chaese Vaudrin scored six in the first frame.

Turnovers were the story of the second half as nine Geneva turnovers resulted in quick Tartan buckets throughout the frame. While the Tornadoes shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half, the turnovers were the story of the night. CMU had a +14 differential in points off of turnovers, and Geneva lost the game by 14 points (81-67). Grim finished the night shooting 8-12 from the floor and 4-8 from the stripe while leading all scorers with 21 points. Vaudrin went 2-6 from the floor and 9-9 from the stripe for 13 points. No other Golden Tornado scored in double figures on the night.

Tyler Damazo was a beast on the boards with 12 for the Tornadoes as they out-rebounded Carnegie Mellon 36-33. Rob Mohen and Christian Monali led the Tartans with 17 points each.

The Golden Tornadoes will next travel to Allegheny College to battle the Gators on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
