Geneva has yet to find its first win of the season dropping games to Wooster and Houghton last week. This Saturday the GT′s will finally come home for a 2 p.m. game against Carlow.

Houghton, NY- The Golden Tornadoes Women′s Basketball team traveled to New York for a matchup against Houghton College on Saturday evening. After three tough losses to start the season, the 0-3 Golden Tornadoes hoped to break into the win column against the winless Highlanders. Unfortunately, after a tight first half, Geneva′s shooting failed them as they dropped a close game to Houghton by a 77-70 final.

Geneva had a fantastic shooting performance in the first half as they shot 48% from the floor. A tight game throughout, both Geneva and Houghton traded blows as the lead bounced from one team to the other. At the end of the first half, the Highlanders owned a 43-42 lead over the Golden Tornadoes.

In a similar fashion to their previous contest, Geneva′s lack of depth hurt them in the second frame as they only played three substitutes throughout the game. As the minutes wore on, the Golden Tornadoes began to go cold from the floor shooting just 10-37 in the second half. Samantha Fisher experienced foul trouble again and Houghton out-rebounded the Tornadoes 65-37 and had a 23-14 edge in second chance points. The Golden Tornadoes hung tough but were not able to put together an offensive push to close out the game as they fell 77-70.

Freshman Miranda Heaney enjoyed a tremendous night from beyond the arc as she shot 5-8 from long range and 6-10 overall for a team-high 17 points. Fellow freshman Nicole Hyland had a double double for Geneva with 15 points and 11 rebounds on the night. Heidi Mann cracked the starting lineup for the first time and added 12 points and two steals. Kristen Moose led the Highlanders with 23 points and 14 rebounds while Maisie Pipher added 17 points and 16 rebounds.

The loss moves the Golden Tornadoes to 0-4 on the season. The victory is Houghton′s first of the year and brings their record to 1-4. Geneva will travel back into Western Pennsylvania to battle Penn State Beaver on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
