gc-sb-4-14-020.jpgBeaver Falls, PA - Senior day can be an emotional day for teams but Geneva chose to exchange that emotion for excitement in a double header against Thiel.

In the first game, the Golden Tornadoes won in walk-off fashion as Laura Beck (Canfield, OH) hit a one-out, two run home run in the bottom of the seventh to give Geneva a 4-2 win. In the nightcap, Geneva almost fell victim to a bottom of the seventh walkoff. The Golden Tornadoes led 6-1 going into the seventh but allowed Thiel to score four runs and then ended the game with a popup with the tying and winning run in scoring position.

Now 19-14 overall and 13-3 in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference, Geneva still has a chance to win the conference, playing its final two games of the conference season at Westminster Saturday.

"We didn′t make it easy but we got two wins," said Geneva coach Van Zanic. "That′s the important thing. Samantha Johnson pitched her heart out - 14 innings and 203 pitches - and we got the key hits."

In the first game, Beck also had a triple and senior Brittany Clark (Trinity, PA) had two singles. In the nightcap, Christina Fuqua (Richard Montgomery, MD) and senior Mackenzie Kemerer (Freedom) each had two hits and Lucia Fee (Mohawk) had a home run. With the two wins, Samantha Johnson (Franklin Regional) now has 16 wins on the season.

Geneva continues its season Friday in a non-conference doubleheader at Baldwin-Wallace.
