Geneva Trio Tabbed as Conference First Team

gcsoftball13384.jpgBeaver Falls, PA- The Presidents′ Athletic Conference released the 2014 all-conference softball teams, voted by the ten coaches in the league. Geneva finished second in the conference under the direction of 12th year Head Coach Van Zanic.

Named to the first team were senior Christina Fuqua (Richard Montgomery/Derwood, MD), sophomore Laura Beck (Canfield/Canfield, OH), and sophomore Samantha Johnson (Franklin Regional/Murrysville, PA). Fuqua finished the season with 50 hits, 27 runs and 23 RBIs. Beck contributed 26 runs, 43 hits and 32 RBIs. Johnson finished the year as the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) East Region player of the year , finishing with a 2.39 ERA after pitching 193 innings, striking out 117 batters. At bat, Johnson had 29 hits and scored 16.

Names as the second team shortstop was senior Ashley Davis (Springfield Local/New Middletown, OH).Davis will graduate Geneva with 202 wins between her 103 wins during her softball career and 99 games won in volleyball.

Receiving honorable mention were freshman Lucia Fee (Mohawk/Wampum, PA) for her work at first base and junior Andrea Hinds (Montrose/Montrose, PA) as the designated player.
