Volleyball ends tournament with split; day two results in losses

Beaver Falls, PA- Geneva volleyball finished the weekend long tournament settling with a split. Geneva fell to Heidelberg (25-20, 25-16, 26-24) and then Bluffton (25-18, 25-18, 25-18) at the end of the day for a 2-2 overall record.

"It was a good opportunity early in the season to put ourselves up against some great teams. We had opportunities but need to build consistency" said co-head coach Curt Conser.

Freshman outside hitter, Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) earned the right to make the all-tournament team after leading the Golden Tornadoes in Kills in every match. Against Heidelberg, Hughes found 10 kills supported by Erin Smith (Sewickley, PA/Ambridge) (eight kills) and Olivia Test (Negley, OH/Heartland Christian) (seven kills). Gabrielle Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic) and Rachel Netherland (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) teamed up for the defensive game, Dickson with 17 digs, Netherland with 14.

Bluffton only allowed eight kills by Hughes while Dickson contributed seven digs. Around the net, Marissa Naples (Cortland, OH/Lakeview) protected GT territory with three block assists.

Wednesday September 3rd Geneva hosts back-to-back conference completion in a 4 p.m. match against Chatham and 8 p.m. match against Thiel.
