Mistakes continue as Geneva falls to Thomas More 42-3

GenC91314373.jpgBEAVER FALLS - Two weeks after five turnovers in the second half cost Geneva a win at Carnegie Mellon, three first half turnovers dug a hole the Golden Tornadoes couldn′t climb out of. Thomas More built on a 35-3 halftime lead to a 42-3 final.

Geneva started the game strong, driving for a 40-yard field goal by Mike Gardner (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) after a Brady Beech (Grove City, PA/Grove City) interception, but Thomas More converted on three straight Geneva turnovers and led 21-3 after one quarter.

The comfortable lead in hand, Thomas More scored two more times in the second quarter and once in the fourth to close the win.

Geneva threatened twice in the second half but was stopped in the red zone on fourth down both times.

Geneva was led in rushing by Dylan Jones (New Castle, PA/Laurel) with 65 yards in 12 attempts and senior Josh Guiser (Fayette City, PA/Frazier) caught nine passes for 51 yards.

Freshman quarterback Aaron Channing (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) completed 12 of 21 passes for 54 yards but was limited by an injury suffered at CMU. Freshman quarterback Nick Cook (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) completed eight of 17 passes for 46 yards in relief.

Geneva sophomore Jimmy Quinlan (Brookfield, OH/Brookfield) led the defensive effort with nine tackles.

Geneva returns to action next week at Case Western Reserve (Cleveland) Saturday at 1:30.
