Volleyball sweeps W&J in three

Washington, PA– Geneva volleyball swept the Washington & Jefferson Presidents 3-0; 25-19, 25-15, 25-16. The conference win raises the Golden Tornadoes overall record to 21-8, tying Bethany College and Thomas More for the top league seed with a 14-2 record in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

“Olivia started us off scoring nine kills in the first set,” said co-head coach Curt Conser.

Olivia Test (Negley, OH/Heartland Christian) put down 15 kills in the three sets in only 32 swings.

Freshman outside hitter, Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) also dominated the attacking game with 16 kills in 24 swings while only giving up one error (.625). Rachel Netherland (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) set for 37 assists against the Presidents.

On defense, Alexis Ritson (Irwin, PA/Hempfield) lead the Golden Tornadoes with 18 digs.

Geneva’s block finished with seven team blocks.

“We are in the middle of a long road stretch. So far it is going well and hopefully we can continue to play well on the road.”

Next, the Golden Tornadoes hit the road for back-to-back games against Thiel College and Thomas More to close out the regular season. Thursday October 30 Geneva faces the Thiel Tomcats at 7 p.m. and Friday October 31 Geneva will play in Kentucky at 6 p.m.
