W&J shows Geneva why it is highly ranked, 51-12

WASHINGTON, PA - Geneva found out exactly why Washington & Jefferson is ranked 15th in NCAA Division III as the Presidents scored the game’s first 44 points in route to a 51-12 win over the Golden Tornadoes.

Geneva went into the game knowing that it would need to slow W&J’s fast-paced offense – leading all levels of the NCAA with 90.6 plays from scrimmage per game – and did that, but that proved to be of little consolation. Geneva actually held the edge in time of possession, 33:11 to 26:49, and held the Presidents to 79 plays, but only one of W&J’s scoring drives was longer than eight plays so the Presidents’ efficiency was more than enough to offset.

W&J led 37-0 at the half and added a second half touchdown before Geneva scored on a 2-yard run by Ryan Mosura (freshman, Masury, OH/Brookfield) and then added another score by Nick Cook (freshman, Walnutport, PA/Northampton) on an 11-yard run.

Sophomore linebacker Jimmy Quinlan (Brookfield, OH/Brookfield) started the game as the second leading tackler in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference and led the Geneva defense with 11 tackles. Freshman quarterback Aaron Channing (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) led the offense with 115 yards passing.

Geneva fell to 2-6, 1-5 in PAC action while W&J improves to 8-0, 6-0.

The loss was Geneva’s 11th straight on the road and marked the second straight year that the Golden Tornadoes were winless away from Reeves Field.

Geneva’s remaining two games are at home with St. Vincent visiting at 1 p.m. Saturday.
