Geneva seals PAC semifinals in 3-1 over W&J

Beaver Falls, PA– Geneva volleyball sealed its trip to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship semifinals in a quarterfinal 3-1 win over Washington & Jefferson; 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-17.

“We played better and cleaner as the match went on. It’s always hard to beat a good team three times in one season and they definitely made us work for it tonight,” said head coach Curt Conser.

“Grace Hayes sparked us from the bench tonight and gave us a much needed boost.”

Sophomore outside hitter Grace Hayes (Westminster, MD/Westminster) hitting a .394 percent, Hayes finished the night with 13 kills in 33 swings with no errors.

“Erica also showed up in a big way as well.”

Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton), led the Golden Tornadoes offense with 22 kills over the Presidents in just 50 swings, hitting a .340 percent.

Rachel Netherland (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) set 45 assists and worked on defense for 22 digs.

Leading Geneva’s defense was Gabrielle Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic) earning 26 digs.

The PAC Championship semifinals set up Geneva to play in Kentucky against Bethany College (#2) Friday November 7 at 8 p.m. Thiel and Thomas More will play each other first at 6 p.m.
