Geneva College’s Adult Degree Programs is organizing a trip to Italy for program students and alumni, their spouses and their friends. The trip will take place over two weeks, from April 25 - May 10, 2015.

The schedule for the trip is packed with activities, but offers free time for personal adventure as well. Travelers will be based in Rome, where they will visit sites including the Roman Forum, Colosseum, Pantheon and Vatican. Overnight trips will be taken to Florence, where participants will see the Piazza del Duomo, the Uffizi Gallery, the Medici Chapels and other locales. Day trips are also available to cities including Siena, Assisi and Sperlonga. And excursions for hiking, biking, and traveling by train in the Tuscan countryside are planned.

The excursion is being led by Adult Degree Programs professor Andrea Korcan-Buzza and history professor Dr. Jeffrey Cole.

“I'm excited about this venture because it provides our adult students the opportunity to experience the richness of the art, architecture, history, and culture of Italy in a way that is designed to bring their humanities courses alive,” says Dr. Cole. “If past short-term trips provide any indication of what this trip holds for the ADP students, then I know that they will walk away with a once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity rich with experiences that are very different from what many tourists have when they are shuttled from one place to the next on a tour bus.”

Participants may attend for class credit, of for recreational, personal enrichment. Those who attend will explore life in Italy through the eyes of the natives, away from the droves of tourists.

“The program is designed in a way that allows participants to explore the best sights in a ‘classroom without walls’ approach, to eat at our favorite authentic restaurants, and to experience the joys of traveling like Italians on public transportation,” explains Dr. Cole. “What could be better? Did I mention gelato?”

The program cost is $2,300 per person for those not seeking academic credit. For students seeking three hours of academic credit through the Adult Degree Programs for HMT 491, the cost is $1,299. A deposit of $1,000 per person is required by December 31, 2014 to confirm participation.
