Ft. Myers, FL – Geneva’s one run first inning against Swarthmore lead Geneva to a game one win only to be upended by St. Joseph’s of Maine in game two. Geneva will break tomorrow standing with a 3-3 overall record, returning to the field Friday March 13 at 11 a.m. against Mount Mary University.

Lucia Fee’s (Wampum, PA / Mohawk) sacrifice hit batted in Dayna Hicks (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) for the 1-0 lead and win against Swarthmore. On the mound, Andy Hinds (Montrose, PA / Montrose) gave up only one hit during her seven innings of work.

“Andy pitched one of the best games of her career in game one,” said Head Coach Van Zanic.

Game two against St. Joseph’s of Maine resulted in hits for both teams beyond the first inning unlike in the day’s first game. In the bottom of the first Fee doubled to right field hitting in Laura Beck (Canfield, OH / Canfield). Fee then crossed home plate herself off Hind’s single. Unfortunately, Geneva would allow St. Joseph’s a run in both the third and fourth innings and the lead in the sixth inning. Geneva entered the bottom of the sixth down, 4-2. Laura Innocenzi (Cortland, OH / Lakeview) grounded out to second base batting in Hinds to shorten the gap to 4-3 Geneva’s bats couldn’t connect more hits with runs and its defense finished the game surrendering another two runs in the seventh inning for the 6-3 final.

“We played two quality teams today.”

“We have to find a way to finish games and get some more wins.”

“We have been winning every game so far this week but haven’t taken full advantage.”

“It will be a nice to have a day off tomorrow.”
