Berea, OH – Geneva Softball dropped two games at Baldwin-Wallace; 5-1, 9-1. The sweep lowers Geneva's overall record to 10-10. The conference opener at Thomas More on Saturday has been postponed due to the sudden death of student-athlete and friend, John Antonishen. The team will be attending the funeral instead of taking the field Saturday. The postponed date will be scheduled and announced tomorrow Thursday, March 26.

Geneva’s first game lone run came off the bat of sophomore third baseman Lucia Fee (Wampum, PA / Mohawk). Fee’s single to centerfield brought in junior shortstop Dayna Hicks (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk). Baldwin Wallace rallied with three hits in the bottom of the third for the 1-1 tie. A ground ball to second base in the fifth brought in the Yellow Jacket’s second run followed by a single to shortstop, handing Baldwin Wallace the 3-1 edge. During the sixth inning an error at first set up Baldwin Wallace for two more runs for the 5-1 final. Junior pitcher Sam Johnson (Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional) took the loss, now holding a 6-5 record.

The Golden Tornadoes opened the second game with an early run in the first. Freshman catcher Megan Davis (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) doubled and Fee brought her home with a single rbi to shortstop. Sophomore centerfielder Clara Sevy (Sykesville, MD / Chapelgate Christian) went 3-for-3 at bat with singles in the first, third and fifth innings. In the circle, Andy Hinds (Montrose, PA / Montrose) was charged with the loss handing her a 4-4 record.

Head Coach Van Zanic commented, “We were not prepared to compete today and I take responsibility for that.”

“We can’t expect to take the field and win unless we are prepared to work for it. With the conference schedule ahead of us we either turn things around quickly or it is going be a long six weeks.”

Geneva will now open conference play Tuesday, March 31 at home against Washington & Jefferson College.
