Bullpen struggles as Thiel Bats come alive in the 9th

gt baseball

Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva started out with a promising lead early in the game with a 3-0 in the bottom of the first. Both Aaron Witman (Greencastle, PA/Shalom Christian) Academy and  Andy Santana (San Pedro de Marcoris, DR/Desert Christian) doubled bringing in runs followed shortly by JC Ackerman (Lewis Center, OH/ Worthington Christian) RBI sac fly.

Starter Zach Ackerman (Lewis Center, OH/ Worthington Christian) had a strong pitching performance with 7 strike outs throughout his 8 innings and had 18 first pitch strikes

Thiel’s Smith homered in the top of the 4th to pull within two, but Ryan McGonigle (Vandergrift, PA/Apollo Ridge) quickly answered with an RBI. Aaron Witman (Greencastle, PA/Shalom Christian) homered in the same inning to create the biggest lead of the game for Geneva.

The 9th inning would prove to be the Golden Tornadoes undoing as Thiel’s offense started to make connections. Thiel pulled ahead by scoring 5 runs Geneva was unable to answer.

“Zach deserves a win today but unfortunately we were unable to finish. It was a very disappointing ending.” Head Coach Alan Sumner

The Golden Tornadoes will face Thiel again tomorrow at Thiel for a double header at 1pm and 3pm.
