Beaver Falls, PA – A six-run explosion in the sixth inning hoisted the Geneva College softball team to a 9-0 win in six innings in the first game over Chatham University at Geneva College on Saturday.

Laura Beck (Canfield, OH / Canfield) led the offensive outburst by scoring two runs, and driving home one on a homer in the second inning.

Samantha Johnson (Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional) had an impressive outing giving up only one hit and striking out 5 batters.

The focal point of game two was Andrea Hinds (Montrose, PA / Montrose) who pitched the Golden Tornadoes to victory to complete the sweep. Hinds allowed just three hits, while striking out four and allowing no earned runs as Geneva won 10-1. At the plate, she had three of 10 Geneva's rbis.

“We have put ourselves in a position to control our own destiny heading into the final week of the season. If we take care of our own business we will have an opportunity to head back to the playoffs which is all we can ask for. It will be an exciting week for our program.” Coach Van Zanic said.

Geneva is currently sixth in the PAC with a upcoming big conference rivalry game against Westminster on Saturday. The softball team will return to action again this week away at Thiel on April 22 at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
