Geneva to Host Beaver Falls Community Crime Watch Day

BF Crime Watch Day

The seventh annual Beaver Falls Community Crime Watch Day will be held at Geneva College on Saturday, August 1, 2015 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The event features free educational demonstrations from law enforcement and other emergency response teams, as well as food, games and entertainment for the whole family.

This nonprofit event is a community effort lead by the Beaver Falls Police Department and the City of Beaver Falls, and is supported by Geneva and other local organizations and businesses. Due to its success and popularity last year, the event  again kicks off with a parade of community leaders and service vehicles starting at 5 p.m. from Tiger Alley in Beaver Falls leading up to Geneva’s campus.

This community event includes a bicycle safety course and demonstrations from the police K-9 unit and the Allegheny County Bomb Squad. Fire Department officials will also be in attendance teaching children how to respond to emergency situations in the home. Mayor George Quay, Chief of Police Charles Jones and other community leaders will be present. The day of fun brings citizens and law enforcement together to heighten community safety awareness and educate local families on the resources available to them. Guests will get an in-depth look at the tools and techniques employed by officers to keep them safe.

Beaver Falls Community Crime Watch Day Co-chair Regina Jones highlighted the importance of this event to the community, “This day is an extremely important public relations opportunity to show how law enforcement works with and for the community. Services that people may not even realize are available to them are presented and various agencies disperse information to educate residents about services available and vendors within the county.”

Many of the activities will be aimed at children such as supervised crafts. Services provided will include child ID kits, Neighborhood Watch information, and information from community service organizations.

As always, the event is free to the public and will include entertainment for the whole family. Returning again this year is the Pirate Parrot, who will ride in the parade on a firetruck and interact with families during the event. Young and old will enjoy carnival games and feel-good music, as well as close-up magic from a local magician.

Vince Charming will stroll through the crowd performing illusions right in front of the crowd. Vince Charming is a local magician and Geneva student who has performed hundreds of shows including one on a cruise ship for over 1,000 people. Rather than perform on a stage, he will perform in the crowd to amaze guests up close and to avoid distracting from other demonstrations.

Zambelli Fireworks will provide the grand finale to the event. The night will climax with a dazzling display of colorful explosions sure to delight guests of all ages.
