The Wednesday, August 19, 2015 episode of WORLD Radio’s The World and Everything in It has been posted to Geneva College’s website at http://www.geneva.edu/faith/the-world. The midweek edition of the show contains today’s news and a political discussion about presidential candidates jockeying for position in Iowa, plus a highlight on the Midwest region finalist for WORLD’s 2015 Hope Award for Effective Compassion.

Today’s headlines include another lost vote for the Obama administration in the battle for approval of the nuclear deal, heat for the IRS for under reporting the size of its recent data breach, the murder trial of the 74-year old man charged with killing three people last year outside Kansas City Jewish Centers and popular children’s television show Sesame Street’s move to HBO.

In the White House Wednesday portion of the program, WORLD Radio’s chief political correspondent Kent Covington discusses the more than 20 presidential contenders fighting for public attention at the Iowa State Fair, now inside six months from the important Iowa caucus. He also talks about a recent survey of evangelical thinkers and opinion leaders, naming religious liberty as the number one voting issue facing evangelicals, with abortion coming in second.

Continuing a series of features on the finalists for WORLD’s 2015 Hope Award for Effective Compassion, this week the Midwest finalist Grace Centers of Hope is featured. Grace Centers of Hope is a ministry based out of Pontiac, Michigan. The ministry provides temporary housing for the homeless, those battling addiction and victims of domestic violence. They have several programs aimed at helping people find Christ and establish a firm footing to be able to take care of themselves.

To end the program WORLD founder Joel Belz gives a commentary entitled “Whatever happened to holiness?” in which he discusses why the term “holiness” is difficult for Christians. He encourages listeners to pray for the eyes to see through the façade of temptation to the rubbish underneath.
