Geneva presents ‘Broadway Revue: All that Jazz’ at Homecoming

Broadway

Geneva College is proud to present Broadway Revue: All that Jazz, a student performance of selections from Broadway musicals. The event also features a special guest performance by Beaver Valley Musicians Hall of Fame inductee Elizabeth “Betty” Asche Douglas, as well as one of Pittsburgh's most popular jazz saxophone players, George Furlow, leading a selection of jazz favorites.

Two performances will be held during Geneva’s Homecoming & Family Weekend, Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26. Both shows will be at 7:30 p.m. in John White Chapel of Old Main (venue not handicap accessible).

“Students have selected songs and musicals from either the golden age of jazz, the 1920s through the 1940s, or songs from different eras that are heavily influenced by jazz styles,” said Kathryn Copeland Donaldson, music professor and musical director for the Broadway Revue. “You can expect to hear a lot of Gershwin and Cole Porter, a student jazz combo that will be accompanying students this year, and Betty Douglas performing ‘Can’t Help Lovin’ That Man of Mine’.”

Douglas, Professor Emeritus of Fine Arts and Humanities at Geneva, has performed at many jazz festivals in the area. In addition, some of her artwork has been included in exhibitions at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, Museum of Art in Lancaster, and many others.

Tickets are available online through Geneva’s homecoming website at www.geneva.edu/homecoming, at the door, or by calling Kathryn Watt, Development Specialist, at 724-847-6505. The cost is $8 for adults, and $5 for students and children.

Both shows are being sponsored by the Geneva Women group.
