The Geneva Reading Series (GRS) kicks off for the fall 2015 semester with a collection of works titled “Metamorphosis” on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 7 p.m. in the West Reading Room of McCartney Library.

“Metamorphosis” will be presented by Dr. Daniel Williams, senior and Cabinet editor-in-chief Dani Fitzgerald, and recent Geneva graduate and current Geneva videographer Zachary Sheldon. There will also be two featured guests including Interim President William Edgar, whom Dr. Williams describes as “a modern day Renaissance man,” and a mystery faculty member.

Dr. Daniel Williams, Professor of English at Geneva College, established the GRS in the fall of 2013 and sponsors two reading series each semester. The GRS seeks to promote the art of poetry, prose and creative writing.

The students who will be presenting for Metamorphosis come from a wide range of backgrounds and majors. Dr. Williams says that Fitzgerald, currently majoring in writing, is a “skilled news writer with great aptitude for creative writing, especially in the form of flash fiction,” and Sheldon, recent Communications and Integrated Media graduate, is a “film, short story and novel writer.”

Dr. Williams picked the  theme of Metamorphosis to promote how change brings beauty. He says that, “change is inevitable and unceasing, but with the Holy Spirit guiding that change, as opposed to other forces, the discomforts of transformation can bring about beauty and revolution, all for the glory of God.”

Dr. Williams invites all who are a part of the Geneva community to be involved in the GRS. “The reading-floor is open for athletes, theologians, engineers, philosophers, historians, musicologists, chaplains, as well as scholars of literature and creative writers – we’ve had readers represent every one of these areas.”

The GRS always has a substantial Geneva student and faculty turnout, which includes members of the College Hill and Beaver Falls community. Beaver Falls Coffee and Tea Company will provide free homemade treats and other refreshments to all who attend.
