ALFRED, NY- The Geneva College men’s soccer team opened the 2015 season in impressive fashion, coming from behind on the road to defeat Alfred, 3-2.

“It wasn’t our prettiest win but I’m proud of the character the team showed,” said Geneva head coach Gary Dunda. “It was a good effort and the guys found a way to win.”

Geneva scored the only goal of the first half when senior Sean Bernardi (Butler) scored 20 minutes into the game. The assists were recorded by sophomore Josh Brenize (Chambersburg) and junior Jonathan Shoaf (Virginia Beach/Norfolk Christian).

Alfred scored the first two goals of the second half before Geneva rallied in the final two minutes and tied the score on a goal by freshman Nate Ferraco (Pittsburgh/Penn Hills) with an assist by Bernardi.

The game winner came in the 101st minute of play when  junior Brandon Crider (Marion, PA/Shalom Christian Academy) scored on an assist by Brenize.

Now 1-0, Geneva returns to action Friday.
