Grove City, PA- Freshmen Josh Duffie (Canton, OH/Glenoak) led the Golden Tornadoes to a third place season opening finish at Grove City Tuesday evening. Duffie finished the 5K race in 16:37.30, placing eighth out of 73 runners.

“It's been clear in all of our workouts that Josh was going to start the season as our number one,” said head coach Brian Yowler.

Junior Ken Kutcel (Medina, OH/Medina) and freshmen Andrew Domencic (Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) placed in the top 20. Kutcel earned a 16th place finish with a time of 17:16.42, Domencic placed 19th in 17:34.87.

“Furthermore, we had four freshmen in our top six, which was really exciting.  It was great to have these freshmen start their college careers at a distance that they are used to racing in high school (5K).  However, from here on out, all of the races for the men will be 8K, starting this Friday evening at Westminster.  That will be a better test to see how they respond to the college distance.”

Friday, the Golden Tornadoes will travel to Westminster College for the Titan’s invitational starting at 7:15 p.m.
