Tennis takes two wins at Waynesburg; Defeats Marietta 8-1, Waynesburg 7-2

Waynesburg, PA – The Geneva College women’s tennis team defeated Waynesburg University 7-2 before turning the trick on Marietta College by the score of 8-1 in a non-conference match. Geneva improved to 5-1 overall including a 3-1 mark in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

In the first match of the day against Waynesburg, Geneva won its second and third doubles with identical 8-4 scores. The Golden Tornadoes then swept all six singles matches.

Sara Stoll (Norwalk, OH/Norwalk) defeated her Yellow Jacket opponent 2-6, 6-1, 10-7.

Samantha Jensen (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores) also took her opponent to a third set, working for the 6-3, 3-6, 10-3 win.

Against Marietta the Golden Tornadoes won all three double matches.

In singles, Geneva senior Megan Sweyer (Pulaski, PA/Wilmington) battled into the third set with a 6-4, 4-6 10-8 victory.

“We really played our games well today,” said head coach Mandee Craft.

“We stayed focused and got the job done.”

“We’ve lost to Waynesburg the last two years so I’m really pleased with our effort today.”

Next, Geneva faces Grove City on the road on Thursday, September 24 at 4 p.m.
