Geneva volleyball’s winning streak hits 11

Washington, PA- Volleyball traveled to Washington & Jefferson College for a tri-match against the W&J Presidents and the Chatham Cougars. Geneva defeated W&J (3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-20) at 4 p.m. followed by a 6 p.m. match against Chatham (25-10, 25-15, 25-16). The back-to-back victories raised Geneva’s record to 11-1 overall, 3-0 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

Grace Hayes (Westminster, MD/Westminster) led Geneva’s offense with 19 total kills, 13 against W&J, six against Chatham.

“Grace had a nice match,” said co-head coach Curt Conser. “We have been thrilled with her. She has been quietly putting together a really good season.”

“After the first set against W&J we cleaned it up for set two and three.”

Geneva racked up nine team blocks against the Presidents and had four GTs in the double digits in digs: Rachel Tuck (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary School), Marissa Naples (Cortland, OH/Lakeview), Carolyn Kaufer (Albion, PA/Northwestern) and Gabrielle Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic).

In game two of the day, freshman Allyssa Kerr (Titusville, PA/Warren County Christian School) earned a team high eight kills. Alexis Ritson (Irwin, PA/Hempfield) worked for ten digs. As a team Geneva tallied 14 serve aces.

The Golden Tornadoes return to the road Saturday, September 19 to face Franciscan and Houghton at Franciscan.
