Volleyball has perfect weekend at Gettysburg

Gettysburg, PA – Geneva volleyball went 4-0 this weekend at the Gettysburg College Tournament. Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes defeated Gettysburg 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-9) and Mount Saint Mary’s 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-17). The 2-0 day raises the Golden Tornadoes’ overall record to 4-1.

“We played really well,” said co-head coach Curt Conser. Our goal was a 4-0 weekend, so it was good to meet that goal.”

Sophomore Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) led Geneva’s offense against Gettysburg with 14 kills.

“We blocked really well.”

As a team, Geneva blocked nine.

On defense, junior Gabrielle Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic) had an outstanding three sets with 21 digs.

“Her (Gabrielle) defense has been strong.”

“Our serve has been strong too.”

Against Mt. St. Mary’s, Geneva totaled 18 service aces. Dixon alone had four aces and 17 digs.

Junior Grace Hayes (Westminster, MD/Westminster) and Carolyn Kaufer (Albion, PA/Northwestern) each tallied six kills over Mt. St. Mary’s.

Freshman McKenna Shick (Knox, PA/Keystone Jr-Sr High School) set in sets two and three finishing the win with 17 assists.

Wednesday, September 9 at 7 p.m. conference foe, Bethany, will visit College Hill. This weekend Bethany defeated Mt. Union, who handed Geneva its loss in the season road opener.
