Offensive Surge Continues in 3-1 win over Pitt-Greensburg

Even the weather couldn’t stop the resurgent Geneva College women’s soccer team, but it did slow it down. Playing at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh against Pitt-Greensburg, the game was delayed by lightning but eventually played in its entirety. When it was, the Golden Tornadoes came back from a 1-0 deficit to capture a 3-1 win, raising Geneva’s record to a perfect 3-0.

Pitt-Greensburg found the back of Geneva’s net first, scoring in the 38th minute for its last lead of the night. Junior forward Kimberly Orihel (Green, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy), who scored a hat trick on Monday against Mt. Aloysius, answered six minutes later for the 1-1 tie.

“It was a tough game,” said head coach Linda Sumner. “But we came from behind to win 3-1.

"Our girls played hard and were once again able to come back after being down a goal. Our balanced offense and solid defense contributed to our win against a talented Pitt Greensburg team."

Orihel, though, is not the only scoring threat Geneva has available. Senior midfielder Heidi Mann (Colorado Springs, CO/Evangelical Christian Academy) and sophomore forward Laiton Suders (Chambersburg, PA/Cumberland Valley Christian) also scored for Geneva, sealing the win.

Geneva finishes its week on the road Saturday, at Marietta starting at 1 p.m.
