The Wednesday, October 28, 2015 episode of WORLD Radio’s The World and Everything in It has been posted to Geneva College’s website at http://www.geneva.edu/faith/the-world. The midweek edition of the show talks about the upcoming Republican debate and continuing race. A segment on the potential of wireless charging is featured in the latter half of the program.

In today’s top news, House Speaker John Boehner announced a tentative two-year budget deal made with congressional Democrats and the White House. The deal raises spending caps of defense and domestic spending, as well as extends the debit limit to 2017. The agreement averts a government shutdown.

Republicans are seeking to impeach IRS Commissioner John Koskinan on the basis of false statements to congress and fallout of the political targeting scandal. The IRS has been accused of political bias favoring Democrats and with covering up that bias. The IRS denies any discrimination took place.

In other news, Defense Secretary Ashton Carter faced questions regarding a raid on ISIS that saw the rescue of 70 prisoners as well as the death of an American soldier. He defended putting boots on the ground and outlined the United States plan of attack towards ISIS going forward.

In the White House Wednesday portion of the show, WORLD reports on the upcoming Republican debate and the overall state of the GOP race. The importance of early polls is questioned while voting patterns are analyzed, as voters tend to support exciting candidates early and shift to more pragmatic ones later. The ever-changing polls are mostly downplayed by candidates to prevent awkward comments when they lose ground.

Gambling on political results is also a topic in this week’s White House Wednesday. Contrasting with current polls, prediction aggregates peg Marco Rubio as the most likely to win the nomination at 35 percent, compared to 26 percent showing by Ben Carson in the national polls.

WORLD reports on the potential of wireless charging technology in the latter half of the program. Radio waves can be used to beam power to devices such as smartphones over a distance up to 15 feet. The benefits and adoption of this technology is analyazed.
