WAYNESBURG, PA - The Geneva and Waynesburg men’s soccer team were scoreless for the first 80 minutes but that was just a warm up. Over the next 12 minutes of action, three goals were scored and Geneva prevailed 2-1 in overtime to improve to 8-3-3 overall, 3-0-1 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action.

“We were in total control of the game but Waynesburg was playing a defensive style that kept us from scoring,” said Geneva coach Gary Dunda. “Finally, Liam O’Halloran got a good play on the ball and Brandon Crider gave us the lead.”

The goal by Crider, a junior from Marion, PA (Shalom Christian Academy) came at the 80:22 mark but Waynesburg answered with just 1:49 left to send the game to overtime. Crider ended the game just 1:47 into overtime, this time on an assist by sophomore Gib McCracken (Beaver Falls/Beaver County Christian School).

“Gib laid the ball across for Brandon, he got the goal, and we celebrated,” Dunda said. “Any time you get a road win in this conference is a big win.

“Our guys showed their character in this one.”

Geneva returns to Presidents’ Athletic Conference action Wednesday with a home game against Bethany at 7:00.
