msoccerBeaver Falls, PA - Bethany scored first in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference matchup, but Geneva responded with four unanswered goals to improve to 9-3-3 overall and 4-0-1 in PAC action.

“We had a bit of a wakeup call, they caught us off guard early,” said Geneva coach Gary Dunda. “That shook the branches a little and we responded. That’s the mark of a good group when you can win when it isn’t necessarily your best effort.”

Geneva sophomore Gib McCracken (Beaver Falls/Beaver County Christian School) tied the game just 5:18 after Bethany’s goal and his former high school teammate Abel Carleton (Darlington, PA) gave Geneva the lead just nine minutes later. Both goals were assisted by senior captain Sean Bernardi (Butler, PA/Butler).

Bernardi scored the third goal himself on a penalty kick and McCracken closed the scoring at 67:16, with an assist by sophomore Spencer Edwards (Winter Springs, FL/Winter Springs).

Geneva next travels to Crestview Hills, Kentucky, on Saturday to face first-place and 6th-ranked Thomas More (13-1-1, 5-0 in the PAC) at 2:30.

“They’ve been the standard in our conference for some time now,” Dunda said. “We’re looking forward to a couple of good days of practice and giving it our all.”
