Beaver Falls, Pa: Geneva Volleyball defeated conference rival St. Vincent in three sets 25-21, 25-17, and 25-14 on senior day on Saturday. With the victory, Geneva volleyball improves to 26-7 overall and 15-3 in the President’s Athletic Conference (PAC).

“Our defense again was strong, holding Saint Vincent to a .000 hitting percentage. At the same time, our offense started to find its rhythm again.” Said coach Curt Conser

St. Vincent held an impressive lead 10-4 over the GT’s in set one before sophomore Marissa Naples’s (Cortland, OH/Lakeview) six point service run gave Geneva the lead to win the first set. The Golden Tornadoes rallied together in the last two sets to complete the match victory over St. Vincent.

The Golden Tornadoes combined for a team total of 38 kills and 58 digs. Junior Gabrielle Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic) was solid on defense with 12 digs. Both Sophomore Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) and junior Olivia Test (Negley, OH/Heartland Christian) had eight kills. Junior Carolyn Kaufer (Albion, PA/Northwestern) had a big night on the service line with four service aces.

For their senior day, the Golden Tornadoes honored senior Rachel Netherland (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) on her fourth year playing for Geneva College women’s volleyball. Netherland is currently third overall in Geneva women’s volleyball history for career wins.

Geneva earned a bi-week in the PAC Championship quarterfinals. The Golden Tornadoes will face either Washington & Jefferson or Bethany in Kentucky Friday, November 6, 2015 at 8 p.m.
