Geneva volleyball sees winning streak stopped, starts another

Beaver Falls, PA – Thomas More ended Geneva volleyball’s winning streak at 18 – one short of the overall school record - and handed the Golden Tornadoes just their second loss of the season; The 3-2 final (16-25, 25-12, 21-25, 20-25, 7-15) brought Geneva’s overall record to 18-2, 8-1 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference in Geneva’s first match of the day. The Golden Tornadoes started another streak just two hours later, defeating Thiel, 3-0 (25-19,25-18,25-15). The 1-1 day hands Geneva a 19-2 overall record, 9-1 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. 

Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) led Geneva’s offense in game one with 12 total kills. Rachel Netherland (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) and Grace Hayes (Westminster, MD/Westminster) each tallied nine kills each.

Olivia Test (Negley, OH/Heartland Christian) earned eight blocks over the visiting Saints.

Gabrielle Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic) led the defensive efforts with 30 digs.

In the second game, Hughes tallied another 17 kills, bringing her season total to 225.

Marissa Naples (Cortland, OH/Lakeview) ten kills, ten digs and eight assists in the win.

Netherland set the team for 22 assists and earned team high 12 digs.

McKala King (Uniontown, OH/Lake) collected 10 digs.

Tuesday, the Golden Tornadoes return to home court hosting Grove City at 7 p.m.
