The Wednesday, November 18, 2015 episode of WORLD Radio’s The World and Everything in It has been posted to Geneva College’s website at http://www.geneva.edu/faith/the-world. The midweek edition of the show talks about the issue of immigration and features an interview with Rod Drehr about a response to today’s culture called the Benedict option.

In today’s top news, Russian planes hit the Syrian city of Raqqa with an airstrike after it was discovered that a Russian plane that went down over Egypt was the result of an ISIS bomb. Russia joins France and the United States in attacking Syria in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris, France. Russian president Vladimir Putin also said through an interpreter that Russian may send groups into Syria sooner rather than later.

President Obama is getting pushback for comments stating that the ISIS problem is geographically contained. Democrats are speaking out against him by saying they feel less secure than ever from ISIS after the attacks. Democrats are also calling the president too cautious. The President is also coming under fire for his plan to deal with over 1000 refugees looking to enter the country. It is known that at least one Paris attacker posed as a refugee.

In the White House Wednesday portion of the show, WORLD reports on the GOP candidates’ stances on immigration. After the Paris terrorist attacks, immigration has become one of the largest issues of the campaign. Donald Trump has become the face of the anti-immigration cause, while Marco Rubio is attempting to overcome failed legislation from his past. Candidates as a whole are spinning their past stances on the issue.

WORLD interviews Rod Drehr about his response to current culture, which he calls the Benedict option. Taking inspiration from Saint Benedict during the dark ages, Drehr says we are waiting for a modern-day Benedict to form a community of prayer and holiness in a time that sees Christians called bigots by the rest of culture.
