HAMBURG, NY- Geneva opened its 2015-2016 season on the road against Hilbert and played the Hawks evenly for most of the first half. A late 10-0 run put the Hawks in control at halftime and their momentum continued in the second half.

Playing without leading scorer and All-PAC first teamer senior Ethan Adamczyk (Uniontown, OH/Lake) as he recovers from an off-season injury, the Golden Tornadoes were paced by sophomore Anthony Carthen (Washington, DC/McKinley Tech) with 21 points.

Also scoring double figures were junior Chaese Vaudrin (Uniontown, OH/Lake) with 18 and sophomore Jimmy Leichliter (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville) with 12.

“We shot 49% from the floor, which isn’t bad,” said Geneva coach Jeff Santarsiero. “But we committed 27 turnovers and that is bad. Our freshmen played like freshmen, but that is to be expected. “We got all our first-game jitters out and now we move on.”

Geneva opens its home season Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. against Carnegie Mellon.
