Geneva men’s soccer wins in double overtime; Advances to PAC Championship on Saturday

men soccer

Beaver Falls, PA - A goal by junior Brandon Crider (Marion, PA/Shalom Christian Academy) in the 105th minute gave Geneva a 2-1 win over Grove City in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference semifinal. Earlier in the day, the Thomas More Saints were upset in the opening game of the PAC Semifinals. Golden Tornadoes’ win hands them a home PAC Championship Final game against arch-rival Westminster Saturday at 7:00. It will be the first time in all-sport history that Geneva and Westminster meet to battle for a PAC Champion title.

The goal was Crider’s sixth of the season and finally settled the issue as the game had been tied for almost the entire game. The game was scoreless at the half.

The Golden Tornadoes led briefly in the second half on a goal by freshman Liam O’Halloran (Elyria, OH/Elyria Catholic), his fifth of the season, but Grove City tied the game three and a half minutes later on a goal by Seth Loew. Junior Jonathan Shoaf (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Christian) recorded an assist on the goal. Geneva freshman goalkeeper Luke Nolan (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) made six saves in recording the win.

The final score was the same result as the regular season matchup between the teams – but Geneva’s win at Grove City on October 5 came in regulation. Geneva, now with a record of 12-4-3, tied Westminster 1-1 in the regular season.
