Geneva College’s zip line has been reopened after being closed for four years. The on-campus attraction recently had a grand re-opening, and will be used on a more regular basis during the spring 2016 semester.

“It’s definitely a celebratory occurrence for campus,” said Adventure Learning Coordinator Becky Case.  “Play, laughter and recreation rejuvenate us, provide energy and remind us of the fullness of life. That’s how God designed us.  If the zip line can provide some of that, then great! All in all, we are thrilled to be able to re-open the zip line this year.”

The zip line was closed four years ago when the tree to which it was anchored began to die. Geneva desired to rebuild and re-open as soon as possible and an arborist was quickly brought in to select a new tree. However, state regulations reclassified zip lines as amusement park rides, requiring new certifications, and so Geneva staff worked to ensure that the rebuilt zip line meets current standards.

Kyrik White, a member of the adventure team and the first rider of the new zip line, said, “The zip line offers campus a unique experience by allowing students to get engaged with other members of the campus community. The zip line represents more than the Adventure Learning program. It gives a glimpse into the diversity of interests and opportunities on campus. Plus, who doesn't enjoy getting a unique view as you dart across the sky?"
