Nate FerracoThe Geneva College community is mourning the death of freshman engineering student Nate Ferraco, who died as a result of injuries suffered in a car accident on Saturday night. Nate, a soccer player from Pittsburgh and graduate of Penn Hills High School, was in a car with three other Geneva students when the accident occurred in nearby Butler County.

The community was notified by an email from Dean of Student Development Brian Jensen early Sunday morning. He said, “The loss of one of our own community members brings great sorrow. Please join me in prayer for Nate’s parents and family during this difficult time. We are currently working with the family and offering them any assistance the College can provide.” Dean Jensen also encouraged those who may need the help of counselors, Chaplain and Student Development Personnel to seek help from the college offices.

As is common at Geneva, a Christian college, students, faculty, coaches and staff are expected to draw together to grieve and pray in small groups and as a community in the coming days. In his email, Dean Jensen pointed the community to 2 Corinthians 1:3&4, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

Soccer Coach Gary Dunda, deeply saddened by the loss, said, “Nate Ferraco was a special person with many wonderful talents. He was a standout soccer player, gifted student, and he truly cared deeply for his teammates and friends. Nate will always hold a special place in my heart and I will forever cherish the time I got to spend with him.”

Fellow students, teammates, coaches, faculty and friends of Nate can share their memories, prayers and thoughts at this page http://www.geneva.edu/community/memorials/nate-ferraco-remembered.
