Geneva to Host Center for Public Justice Speakers

Guests@Geneva

Geneva College will host Center for Public Justice representatives Stephanie Summers and Katie Thompson, as a part of the Geneva Visiting Artist and Lecture Series (GVALS). “Unleashing Opportunity: Why Escaping Poverty Requires a Shared Vision of Justice” will take place on Thursday, February 18 at 7 p.m. on campus in Skye Lounge, located in the Student Center.

“The presentation and panel discussion that will follow will provide us with the opportunity to engage issues that are important to our community and nation,” says Jeffrey Cole, Director of Crossroads and Professor of History at Geneva College. “We hear so much from presidential candidates about America’s deeply-rooted economic problems and their ideas about how to solve them at the national level, but are left wondering how we can address them in our community.  Now we have the opportunity to think about these important matters in light of our faith and be challenged to act.”

Stephanie Summers Stephanie Summers is the CEO of the Center for Public Justice, an independent civic education and public policy organization based in Washington D.C. She frequently speaks at colleges and universities, helping students, staff, and faculty understand the implications of public justice. She earned a master’s degree in non-profit management from Eastern University, where she holds an appointment to the Board of Fellows for the Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership program.

Katie Thompson Katie Thompson is the editor of Shared Justice, an online journal for millennials published by the Center for Public Justice. She is a 2012 graduate of Gordon College, where she was the editor-in-chief of the college newspaper and served as a Fellow with the Gordon College News Service. Through GVALS, Geneva invites prominent guests to campus each semester to enrich the educational experience while engaging the campus and surrounding community with cultural ideas and values.
