Crossroads: Geneva College’s Center for Enriched Learning is pleased to announce that Matthew Soerens and Liz Dong from Evangelical Immigration Table are coming to campus in March as part of the Geneva Visiting Artist and Lecture Series (GVALS).

Wednesday, March 16 features a screening of the film The Stranger in Skye Lounge of the Student Center at 7 p.m. This will be followed by a panel discussion. The Stranger is a 40-minute documentary commissioned by the Evangelical Immigration Table and produced by Emmy-award winning producer Linda Midgett. The film profiles three immigrants and includes interviews with local and national Christian leaders.

On Thursday, March 17, Soerens and Dong will present “A Biblical View on Immigration” in Skye Lounge at 7p.m.

In addition, Soerens will speak on “Mission at Our Doorsteps” during Geneva’s weekly chapel for the campus community. Chapel takes place each Wednesday for the fall and spring semesters at 10:10 a.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse.

Matt SoerensSoerens is the author of Welcoming the Stranger: Justice, Compassion & Truth in the Immigration Debate. He serves as Field Director for the Evangelical Immigration Table, which is an initiative to promote biblical values and standards on issues involving immigration reform.

Liz DongDong is the Midwest Regional Mobilizer for Evangelical Immigration Table. She graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in communication studies and is currently pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Dr. Jeffrey Cole, Director of the Crossroads Office at Geneva, says “With this event, we are striving to reach a broader audience outside of the Geneva community. Promoting dialogue about immigration seems to be the right thing to do at a time when Americans are engaging in important debates about this issue. It is especially vital that Christians understand what the Bible has to say about welcoming the outsider.”

Through GVALS, Geneva invites prominent guests to campus each semester to enrich students’ educational experience while engaging the campus and surrounding community with cultural ideas and values. Visitors include distinguished lecturers, well-known artists and musicians, best-selling authors and leading religious figures.

These lectures are free of charge and open to the public.

Geneva College invites students to step forward with an academically excellent, Christ-centered and affordable education. Offering more than 40 majors, Adult Degree Programs with fully online and campus-based options, and high-demand advanced graduate degrees, Geneva's programs are recognized for their high quality.
