Geneva Theater Presents "Much Ado About Nothing"

Much Ado About Nothing

William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing comes to life this February on the stage of Geneva College’s newly renovated Bagpiper Theater. Starring McKenna Pontoli as Beatrice and Adam Speers as Benedick, the show opens on Thursday, February 18 and runs through Saturday, February 27.

Performances are on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and also on Saturday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. General admission is $8 while students, faculty and staff, seniors, and children may purchase their tickets for $5.

According to David Kuhns, Professor of English, Much Ado About Nothing celebrates the joys of homecoming, reunions and the chance to begin life anew. He says, “Perhaps Shakespeare’s most mature comedic study of love and friendship, the play explores the emotional risks of trust and good-faith without which there can be no true human bonding.”

Kuhns chose to set Geneva’s production in June 1945, immediately following VE Day. “The remarkable thing about Shakespeare’s plays is their cultural ‘elasticity’; they speak into the human realities of just about every historical era of the modern Western World,” says Kuhns.

Tickets may be reserved in advance by calling the Bagpiper Theater Box Office at 724-847-5099 beginning February 4. Reserved tickets may be picked up on the day of the performance, beginning at 7 p.m. for evening shows and 1 p.m. for Saturday matinees.
