Geneva Comeback Win over Chatham adds to Senior Night Celebration

Lawrence

Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva celebrated its three graduating seniors in classic comeback style Saturday night in a 65-62 win over Chatham. The win raises Geneva’s overall record to 4-19, 4-12 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

Senior Jordan Lawrence (Columbia, MD/Chapelgate) jumpstarted the Golden Tornadoes for the win with a rebound paired with two perfect free throws for a late four point lead, 64-60, the largest lead either team had since the opening minutes of the second half.

With one minute remaining, Lawrence set up sophomore Jimmy Leichliter’s (Connellsville, PA/ Connellsville)’s layup, grabbed a clutch defensive rebound 26 seconds later and handed Geneva the four point advantage with 21 seconds left.

A Chatham jumper returned the game to a one basket margin at 64-62. Junior Chaese Vaudrin (Uniontown, OH/Lake) then sealed the win with a good free throw for the final 65-62 win.

Vaudrin finished the night with a double-double, scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Senior Ethan Adamczyk (Uniontown, OH/Lake) celebrated senior night in style with 26 points and nine rebounds.

“I am very glad for our seniors,” said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. “We battled through some adversity in the game. That is a tribute to our kids; we made stops when we need to.”

In addition to the three seniors on the court, Geneva said thank you to its dedicated student-manager of four years, Colby Boozer. Boozer has become a fixture in the athletic department, not only as a member of the men’s basketball staff but also the football staff. For his outstanding care and hard work, Boozer became Geneva’s youngest recipient of the honorary “G” in the evening’s ceremonies.

The senior class of 2016 including Lawrence, Adamczyk and Zack Stitt (Oakmont, PA/Riverview) and the rest of the Golden Tornadoes will play one more time at home on Wednesday, February 17 against Waynesburg starting at 7:30 p.m.
