Men’s Tennis Program Restart & Home Opener Falls to Mt. Aloysius 7-2

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva men’s tennis made its comeback tonight after an 18 year hiatus. The program had shut down after their 1997-1998 season (competing at the NAIA level) due to diminished interest, but interest has peaked again and the team back for round two, competing in the NCAA Division III Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

The historic 2016 team opened its season at home to Mount Aloysius falling 7-2.

“Today’s match game me a glimpse of the future of Geneva’s men’s tennis and I liked what I saw,” said head coach Mandee Craft. “We absolutely have things we need to work on but one thing I love about this group is that they will show up at the next practice ready to do just that.”

“Eric’s tenacity today embodied the attitude of the whole team and I can’t wait to see where we are headed.”

Eric Abbott (Seven Fields, PA / Seneca Valley) helped Geneva earn both its points. Abbott’s second set comeback earned Geneva a first singles win; 1-6 6-3, 10-8.

Abbott and first doubles partner, Evan Shaw (Enon Valley, PA / Homeschool) outlasted their opponents 9-8 (6).

Now 0-1, Geneva will have a quick turnaround hosting Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday, February 27 at 6 p.m. indoors at Bradys Run.
