Geneva Cross Country Alumni Joins Credit Union Kids @ Heart Team

Shannon Smith

Shannon SmithBeaver Falls, PA - Shannon Smith, a 2015 Geneva College graduate, plans to run in the 120th Boston Marathon to raise money for the research and treatment of brain disease.

Smith has a personal connection with this cause. In 2012, she was diagnosed with Moyamoya, a rare brain disease caused by blocked arteries. A four-year member of Geneva’s cross country team, Smith was forced to take eight months off for surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Following her recovery, Smith received an offer from the Credit Union Kids @ Heart Team to run the Boston Marathon on their behalf.

“I get to raise awareness and research money for this disease that I have. And I get to do it through one of my favorite activities, which is running,” Smith wrote on her fundraising Web page.

Smith is the first former patient to run with the Credit Union Kids @ Heart Team.
