Jazz Band Presents “In the Mood XXI: Big Band Returns”

Jazz Band

The Geneva College Jazz Band continues its long tradition of performing big band music from the 1930s and ’40s with “In the Mood XXI: Big Band Returns.” The ensemble will present a concert of swing music favorites on Saturday, April 9 at 8 p.m. in John H. White Chapel of Old Main.

The Jazz Band is comprised of 20 students, featuring brass, saxophone and rhythm sections. The band will present popular jazz standards such as “Love is Here to Stay,” “Begin the Beguine,” “They Can’t Take That Away from Me,” “In the Mood” and more. The program will also include several vocal solos in addition to the solo features performed within the band.

Jazz Band Director and Chair of the Music Department Don Kephart notes, “Big Band music left a permanent mark on American popular music. It was a positive and optimistic music that helped guide us through the Great Depression, World War II and the post-war recession. The music was indelibly etched into American Culture, and it continues to be enjoyed today by old and young alike.”

The price of admission is $8 for adults and $3 for students. Seating is limited and the venue is not handicap accessible. To reserve tickets or for more information, contact Geneva’s Department of Music at 724-847-6660.
