Fourth Inning Surge Gives Geneva Baseball Win over PS Beaver

Geneva baseball

Beaver Falls, PA – The Geneva College baseball team defeated Penn State Beaver 9-3 in a single nine-inning game on Tuesday, March 29, in what proved to be an exciting game, at least offensively. The win brings the Golden Tornadoes to an overall record of 6-9 overall after this non-conference game.

Penn State Beaver jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the third before Geneva got its offense untracked with a six-run explosion in the fourth inning. The big inning was created by a bases loaded walk, an RBI single by senior Aaron Whitman (Greencastle, PA/Shalom Christian Academy) and a two-run single by sophomore Forrest Beighley (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk).

Mark Overmier (Crofton, MD/Mount St. Joseph) also racked up two RBIs on four hits as he singled in the third, fourth, fifth, and seventh innings. Penn State Beaver’s offense was kept under control by Caleb Metzler (Lititz, PA/Warwick), with his work on the hill. Penn State Beaver managed just one hit and no earned runs as Metzler walked none and struck out four during his two innings of work.

Tanner Propst was also effective on the hill as he worked his way towards his win. He allowed three runs over two innings. He struck out one, walked none and surrendered three hits.

Geneva Baseball will go to work again Friday, April 1 at 4:30 when they travel to Washington and Jefferson College for their next conference game.
